Code of Conduct

The Chicago Underground Blues Experience is open to everyone regardless of race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, marital status, health, or ability. In order to maintain and promote a safe and healthy dance scene at this event, we promote the following rules and guidelines:

General Rules:

  1. You must be 21 or older with a valid ID to consume alcohol at any CUBE venue.

  2. Attendees under the age of 18 should be accompanied by an adult after 9 p.m.

  3. Anyone who is overly drunk may be refused service and/or asked to leave. Please be aware of your limits.

  4. CUBE is an event where everyone should feel welcome and safe. Respect others.

Community Guidelines:

  1. I will respect people’s points of view, beliefs, lifestyles, and physical and personal boundaries on and off the dance floor. I realize that I may make others uncomfortable without realizing it and will be mindful of my words and ask for permission before touching, hugging, cuddling, or other seemingly innocent forms of physical contact.

  2. I understand the difference between expressing my sexuality through dance and engaging in sexual behavior while dancing. I will never engage in sexual behavior on the dance floor.

  3. I reserve the right, and will respect others’ rights, to stop a dance if I or they feel uncomfortable. I will confront the offender right away (if I am comfortable doing so) and inform an organizer if I am uncomfortable with a dance.

  4. If I experience or witness any behavior that’s inappropriate or makes someone feel uncomfortable, I will bring it to an organizer’s attention immediately.

  5. I will verbally ask a person to dance and wait for the person to respond affirmatively before proceeding. I will be respectful when declining dances and accept negative responses with courtesy and graciousness.

  6. I realize that my Number One responsibility during any dance is to make sure that my partner, I myself, and those around me are safe and comfortable. I will do my best to make sure that my dancing does not cause anyone else any injury or discomfort.

  7. I will obey all applicable laws. I’ll also follow the rules of all CUBE venues and any requests made by the CUBE staff and volunteers. I realize that, as a participant in this event, I’m representing the event and my actions have the potential to impact the event and its future.

  8. I realize that this policy cannot and does not outline every type of acceptable or unacceptable behavior or resulting consequences. In the end, I will use common sense, treat others the way they would like to be treated, listen to the CUBE staff and volunteers, and accept any consequences of my actions.

If I am approached by an organizer, I will be respectful and take their concerns into account.

If I am approached and do not change my behavior, I understand I may be asked either to leave the event and/or to refrain from attending any further events based on the severity of the breach and the discretion of the organizers. I also understand that if the organizers believe the circumstance calls for extreme measures, I may be asked to leave the dance without prior warning.

Sarah Catalano will be the main safer spaces contact for this event. If there are any concerns regarding a breach of the Code of Conduct, or any other safer spaces concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to her or any of the other organizers. All matters will be treated confidentially and will not be shared with others without express permission. If there are any concerns prior to the event, or in between events during the weekend, please contact
